The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 (SFDRR) highlights the importance of scientific research, supporting ‘availability and application science technology to decision making’ in disaster risk reduction (DRR). Science can play a crucial role world's ability reduce casualties, physical damage, interruption critical infrastructure due natural hazards their complex interactions. SFDRR encourages better access technological innovations combined with increased DRR investments developing cost-effective approaches tackling global challenges. To this aim, it is essential link multi- interdisciplinary research policy engineering/DRR practice. share knowledge promote discussion on recent advances, challenges, future directions ‘Innovations Earthquake Resilience’, group experts from academia industry met London, UK, July 2019. workshop focused both cutting-edge ‘soft’ (e.g., novel modelling methods/frameworks, early warning systems, financing parametric insurance) ‘hard’ structural systems/devices new structures retrofitting existing structures, sensors) risk-reduction strategies enhancement infrastructural earthquake safety resilience. highlighted emerging trends lessons events pinpointed issues interventions. This paper summarises some key aspects identified discussed during inform other researchers worldwide extend conversation broader audience, ultimate aim driving change how seismic quantified mitigated.
